One of the world’s top finance organisation officials visited Nawaka village in Nadi.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) deputy managing director, Carla Grasso presented a cheque donation of more than $15, 000 to Champs on Wheels.

Ms Grasso presented the cheque on behalf of IMF during the graduation ceremony for 43 students of Nawaka Village kindergarten.

She said the funds were collected through management donations during visitations to various international countries.

Past week she opened the high-level conference on IMF Capacity Development and Growth in Fiji along with Acting Prime Minister, Attorney General and Minister of the Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Nadi.

The conference also celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Center (PFTAC)-which was also a first, the first of this type of centre launched by the IMF.

“The Fund made lasting contributions through management donations during visits to emerging economies in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions,” she said.

“IMF giving together also disbursed $210,000 in community grants to 30 local and international charities to encourage economic independence through education and economic opportunities.”

Ms Grasso commended the founder and director for Champs on Wheels, Shabreen Nisha for the effort and initiative put into recognise the need that children should have in terms of quality education.

“I’m so impressed with the initiative that Shabreen Nisha is putting together to meet the needs of these children in providing better education here in Fiji,” she said.

Ms Nisha acknowledged Ms Grasso and the members of IMF for their generous contribution towards the children of Champs on Wheels.

“We cannot thank you enough for recognising that there is a must to education to children aged between zero to four years,” she said.

She said with the inclusion of Nawaka and Narewa Village, the funds would be used to equip all the children with proper educational needs in their early years of learning.
