The Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup exposed some great young talents and potentials as it concluded in the western division last Saturday.

Among these talents was Adam Baber, the son of Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team head coach Gareth Baber.

Adam, a Year Nine student of International Secondary School in Suva, played for the Fiji U16 South team in the boys U16 category.

“To be honest, as a little kid living up in Wales, I think my love is for football as everyone loves, but I was better in rugby.

“Here in Fiji, since my school does not offer rugby as sport, I chose to play football and tried to make the best out of it,” he said.

The 15-year-old said football with the Fijians would be quite tough if played against them.

“It’s a little tough here as they speak a different language, play with a different mentality, and they are all very physical.

“I haven’t played against a Fijian team yet so I do not know how the other team would be like, but from what I felt was that the Fijian team played really good especially against opponents from Australia and New Zealand.

“Playing against a Fijian team will be tough.”

Baber said he has been receiving continuous tips from his dad in whatever he did.

“All the time, he is always telling me what to do and what not to do.

“I’m making the most out of football.”

He said Fiji is definitely the place to be.

“The people are really nice and I just love the lifestyle over here.”
