Fiji Airways Fijian 7s rep Meli Derenalagi intends to represent the country in the remaining tournaments of the HSBC World Sevens Series.

“It was good exposure for me and to win in Cape Town was a bonus,” he said.

“I am proud of this moment and it will never forget it. We did hit the low in Dubai and we gathered the pieces together. The senior players were astounding in the forms.”

The former Queen Victoria School student was part of the Josateki Savou coached-Fiji Development men’s 7s team that played against the Japan national 7s team at Oita City in Japan month ago.

He is the son of Vuniani, a former Nadi and national rugby flanker who was dubbed the ‘White Shark’ in his sporting career.

Derenalagi wants to represent the side in the remaining eight stops in the Series.

“I must maintain my fitness, be explosive and sustain speed and power,” he said.

Derenalagi was also part of the Vodafone Fijian Un¬der-20 team that won the World Rugby U20 Trophy in Bucharest, Romania.

Last night, he was hosted to a feast at his village of Nawaka, Nadi, to celebrate his victorious return.
