Naidu was granted bail of $1000, on the condition that he was not to reoffend, interfere with the witnesses or change his residential address.

A 19-year-old man who allegedly caused the death of a woman in Ba on December 10, was granted bail yesterday by the Ba Magistrates Court.

Avi Muni Raj Naidu of Tavarau appeared before Magistrate Samuela Qica charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death and three counts of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged that the vehicle Naidu was driving hit an oncoming vehicle, while he was trying to overtake a minibus, causing the vehicle to hit a power pole in Yalalevu, Ba.

Muneshwari Naidu, a passenger in the vehicle that Naidu was driving, died at the scene.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Dinesh Chand asked the court for two suitable sureties for Naidu.

Naidu’s lawyer, Mark Anthony, told the court that Naidu had his two sureties available – a friend and a brother of the accused.

Magistrate Qica granted bail to the accused of $1000, on the condition that he was not to reoffend, interfere with the witnesses or change his residential address.

Meanwhile, two other passengers who were also involved in the accident are still admitted in the Lautoka Hospital’s Trauma Ward.

Naidu will reappear on February 28, 2019 for mention.
