Wallabies centre Samuela Kerevi is raring for a chance to play against the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians at next year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The Viseisei, Lautoka, native is in the country for his brother, Josua Kerevi’s, wedding today.

Kerevi was impressed with the Flying Fijians’ historic win over France in Paris on November 25, although it did not surprise him.

“I was really pleased with how the result went, obviously defeating France; but looking at the Fijian team, for me, it wasn’t a big surprise,” he said.

“They’ve got a lot of talented players and, watching the game, they really wanted it more than the French.

“Fiji’s backline was looking really dangerous. With players like Semi Radradra, I think they have more good chance at next year’s tournament.”

Kerevi also issued a warning for teams at the World Cup: take Fiji lightly at your own peril.

“I think they will be dangerous in the World Cup. We are in the same pool and they are definitely not a team to take lightly,” he said.

Despite being riddled with injuries, the 25-year-old was part of the Australian side during its recent “disappointing” Northern Hemisphere tour.

He is keeping his fingers crossed on his fitness for the 2019 RWC.

The Wallabies are in Pool D with Wales, Georgia, Fiji and Uruguay. The tournament is set for September 20 – November 2.

“Hopefully I can play and if I play against Fiji it would be the first time I’ve played them and it will be really interesting,” he said.

The wedding will also serve as a reunion for Kerevi in Fiji, where all members of his family will be present after so many years.
