British Doctor On Assault Charge

A British doctor who is in the country on a three-year work visa appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
Elizabeth Spiers is charged with one count each of common assault and damaging property.
She appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili.
Her lawyer told the court that Spiers had applied for leave so she could travel to the Mamanuca Islands for work.
She also presented Spiers’ travel documents, medical registration and passport.
The lawyer also informed the court that Spiers would be traveling outside of Suva from February 7 to March 10.
The accused was granted leave to travel by the court after she reassured to comply by her bail conditions.
The case was adjourned for mention before Magistrate Deepika Prakash to March 19, 2019.
