Lusiana Tuimaisala has learnt Chinese, covered major international events, worked on a financial magazine and completed classes at a prestigious university.

Now the Fiji Sun journalist is preparing to head home to a new role at the country’s biggest newspaper.

Ms Tuimaisala graduated this week in Beijing from a one-year advanced journalism programme in China.

It was based at the China Asia Pacific Press Centre and hosted by the China Public Diplomacy Association.

Fiji Sun Publisher/CEO Peter Lomas said: “An outstanding programme. With lasting benefits in many areas.

“We thank the Chinese Embassy in Suva especially for making it possible. And for making sure Lusi was so well looked after and had such rewarding opportunities.”

Ms Tuimaisala completed courses at Renmin University – one of the most prestigious in China -and Beijing International Chinese College, where she studied Chinese.

She did an internship at Chinese Investment magazine, a major construction and investment publication.

Throughout the year she covered business, trade and finance events.

China themselves

These included the China International Import Expo, the China International Fair for Investment Expo, the China-South Asia Expo, and the Boao Forum for Asia.

She also covered such Fijian focused events as participation in China’s big Belt and Road trade and development initiative and charter flights to Fiji. Even some sport.

Ms Tuimaisala is from Namosi. She will return to Suva and the Fiji Sun early next year as Deputy Managing Editor Business.
