It wasn’t a competitive atmosphere at the 5 kilometre Santa Dash yesterday where more than 500 people who supported the annual event.

Samisoni Tadeo said it was always good to support events as such because it was a good cause.

It was his first time to be part of the event that’s become an annual one and organised by Petero Civoniceva Foundation.

“I am honoured to have shown my support to the diabetic people,” said Tadeo.

“To show them my support and let them know that we are here for them.”

The 5km Dash for Diabetes has a different theme annually. This year it was 5km Santa Dash, which allowed participants to dress up with the Christmas theme of their choice.

Rugby league legend and founder Petero Civoniceva said: “This is our fifth dash for diabetes and it has been amazing to see the turnout here today and it’s a great honour for us to put an event like this together and to see the amount of support that goes into a great cause.

“The money collected from here goes into purchasing those diabetic insulin needles.”

Mr Civoniceva said they had also mapped out plans for the future that would help the growth of the support towards diabetes.

Exciting school programmes

“We have exciting programmes coming to the schools and we’ve also got our work in the community,” he said.

“The programmes will feature myself in a fitness programme so we are all excited about that.

“It’s amazing to see the level of support that we are getting from when we started five years ago.”
