Australian Invests For The Love Of Fiji
Gilbert Parker the owner of Savusavu Helicopters.

Gilbert Parker, an Australian, who fell in love with Savusavu when he spent holiday there four years ago, has returned and invested in a helicopter business.

Savusavu Helicopters is based at the ‘hidden paradise’ more specifically on Savasi Island where he flies passengers from Savusavu Airport.

Mr Parker is a pilot by profession for about  more than 12 years.

He had bought a house in 2013 and has lived here since 2015.

He began offering his business in January this year providing services such as helicopter scenic flights, VIP transfers from Savusavu, Labasa and Taveuni, charters and medical evacuations.

“I have a passion for flying having owned a helicopter for many years,” Mr Parker said.

“I decided to start this business in Savusavu because there was no other helicopter company in Northern Fiji, and I wanted to be able to share the beauty of Savusavu and Northern Fiji with the tourists and locals.

“I also hope that having a helicopter service here will greatly benefit the locals as the response time to access a medivac will be a lot faster.

“My goal is to share the beauty of Savusavu and Northern Fiji from the air with as many people as possible.

“I have big expansion plans for Savusavu Helicopters and I am looking at purchasing a second helicopter.”

The company offers scenic flights, day trips and transfers services.

Favourite view from the top

When asked what was his most beautiful and memorable trip this year, he said: “We were on a scouting mission to Taveuni to find some exciting trips to offer our guests.

“We flew down the eastern coastline of Taveuni not knowing what we would find.

“There are 24 waterfalls in a row on the east coast of Taveuni and each is more impressive than the next.

“We had no idea that it would be this spectacular, and it is still one of my favourite trips to take people on.”

One of the major setbacks for his small business is the unfavourable weather conditions.

The helicopter is a Robinson R44 and it take upto three passengers and one  pilot.

The Robinson R44 Raven II helicopter provides excellent reliability, comfortably seats four adults and everyone gets a window seat.                  It’s distinctive bubble design, with an open cabin and large windows, gives passengers wide, unobstructed views.
