The Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Joshua Wycliffe, has confirmed that the stop work notice has been lifted for Pacific Cement Limited.
The order was lifted on Friday on the condition that all compliance requirements were met ongoing and there would be no further breaches.
On December 5, a complaint was lodged by a resident at the Department of Environment regarding dust emission.
Pacific Cement Ltd group chief executive officer Nouzab Fareed said they had taken remedial steps to reduce the dust output.
Measures taken were:
- Clinker transported with covers on in the trucks.
- Reduced the load carried by the trucks.
- Use of in-closed hoppers, when cement is put from ship into a truck. It is in a covered entry and not exposed. Hence, the dust emission is low.
- Dust collector was used throughout the plant.
