Club Bags $50,000 From Movember Awareness

The Suva Golden Oldies Rugby Club (SGORC) has collected $50,000 from their Movember Prostate Cancer Awareness month.
Club vice president Etika Qica said this year’s funds were slightly lower compared to last year because there were some new sponsors.
“Every year, we are targeting close to 1500 men and we diagnose and provide testing through VanMed Labs,” he said.
“We will also be proving quantitative serum salic acid (TSA/LSA) testing, which will determine the level of TSA in the blood system.
“We are only testing for prostate cancer right now.”
This means their services are limited to only prostate cancer. A 4.0 ng/mL (nanogram per milliliter) of TSA is normal, higher levels require medical attention.
Mr Qica said spreading the awareness was an important part of their fight against cancer.
“I advise people, instead of giving your fathers some gift for Christmas, why don’t you take him to get tested for prostate cancer,” he said.
The sponsors for this year’s Movember were: Fiji Cancer Society, Ministry for Health and Medical Services, Fulton Hogan, BSP, BSP Life, Fiji Airways, Goodman Fielder – Crest and Tuckers, Nivea for Men and Trend Media Pacific and other partners and sponsors.
