Part Of Naiyaca Campus Ready By 2020, Says Nabalarua

The first phase of the new Fiji National University (FNU) campus at Naiyaca Subdivision will be completed towards the end of 2019.

This was confirmed by the FNU Dean of College of Humanities and Education Eci Nabalarua during a stakeholders meeting in Labasa.

“The development of engineering and other sections will continue and part of the FNU is expected to move to the new campus in 2020,” Ms Nabalarua said.

“The new campus will surely bring benefits to the greater Northern Division.”

She also spoke on the possibilities of new programmes for North.

“There is a lot of potential for students in Labasa,” she said.

“A new programme in agricultural engineering is planned to be introduced by mid- 2019 for Labasa campus.

“One of the constraints faced by medical students who are attached to Labasa Hospital and Nabouwalu Sub-divisional Hospital is the shortage of accommodation facilities in these areas.

“There is huge untapped agricultural potential in the North and agriculture needs to be made more appealing.”

The meeting was chaired by Ms Nabalarua in the absence of chairman of FNU Labasa campus advisory board chairman Ratu Williame Katonivere, who is away overseas.
