Theft, Burglary Accused To Be Sentenced Has 61 Previous Convictions

A 37-year-old man with 61 previous convictions of burglary, theft and assault pleaded guilty to four more counts of burglary and theft yesterday in the Labasa Magistrates Court.

Jone Eramasi appeared before Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci and was charged with four different counts of serious assault, burglary and theft at different occasions this year in Labasa. The four charges were read to the accused to which he pleaded guilty to.

In his mitigation, defence lawyer Harry Robinson said the accused had had enough and was now looking for a change in his life.

He said Eramasi had been going in and out of prison for a long time and was wanting a positive change in life.

Mr Robinson also said Eramasi was married and had to spend the past seven months in Police custody.

“He is willing to pay a fine for his actions and I’m asking the court to consider that,” he said.

He also highlighted the previous 61 convictions that the accused previously had and the impact it had on him.

The case has been adjourned to December 28, for sentencing. The accused has been further remanded.
