Market vendors shared the joy of Christmas by exchanging gifts at the Labasa Market on Thursday.

Amelia Disovo, 40, was happy to be part of the celebrations.

“Christmas is something we really look forward to each year and exchanging gifts is something that is very much part of it,” she said.

Ms Disovo, who exchanged gifts with Silvia Ragio, 32, said most of their days had been spent at the Labasa market.

“So we are all like a family here we share most of our time here on a daily basis,” she said.

“Coming together and appreciating each other’s hard work is a special occasion for everyone.”

Ms Ragio was excited and could not wait to get home to open her gift pack.

“I will open it as soon as I reach home and I’m really excited about it,” she said.

While officiating during the celebrations, Labasa Market manager Shalendra Chand said that it was important to recognise the efforts shown by market vendors.

“Most of their days are spent here so everyone is like a big family,” he said.

“Christmas is all about sharing love and positivity.”

Kaliova Draunimasi of the Labasa Market Police Post thanked all market vendors for their continuous support and development of the region.

“Today’s event shows that there is a strong bond and friendship among all market vendors,” he said.

“I would also like to encourage people to help the less fortunate members of society festive season.”
