Police officers in a two-week long operation uprooted 600 kilogrammes of marijuana from Rakiraki Village in Kadavu.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho yesterday led a team to Kadavu to meet with his team there and to help transport the estimated $2.3million worth of marijuana plants back to the main land.

He said that 11 police officers worked tirelessly to net the drugs.

“The initial deployment was of five officers and they were reinforced with another six. Additional deployment of a staff from our forensics unit for testing of drugs was done. There was tremendous support from locals who assisted as guides and also in the uprooting and manual lifting through the rugged terrain.”

Police investigations into the planters of the marijuana are continuing.
