7s Star Faces Rape Charge

A veteran Fijian 7s player has been remanded in custody by the Sigatoka Magistrates Court yesterday following allegations of rape.
Amenoni Nasilasila, 26, is charged with one count of rape.
It is alleged that he raped a 24-year-old woman in Olosara, Sigatoka on Saturday.
Nasilasila surrendered himself at the Sigatoka Police Station on the day of the alleged incident.
The defence lawyer applied for bail for the accused but the prosecutor objected.
Magistrate Jeremaia Savou deferred the matter to December 31 for a decision on the national rep’s bail application.
The accused remained in custody at Natabua Remand Center in Lautoka and will be there through Christmas.
Nasilasila took part in the first tournament of the 2018-19 World Seven Series in Dubai last month.
He was red carded and was named the 13th player at the Cape Town Sevens early this month.
He made his debut at the Gold Coast Sevens in 2014.
