Northern Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Eparama Waqa has urged all drivers to be careful on the roads during this festive season.

This comes after a driver of a twin cab and a passenger were treated for minor injuries on Sunday afternoon when the vehicle in which they were travelling in from Labasa to Lekutu, Bua collided with a parked truck.

Police spokesperson Jokatama Qio said the driver and the passenger had been treated at the Dreketi hospital and were released.

SSP Waqa said: “If you are taking on a long journey, please take rests in between driving.”.

SSP Waqa also urged all drivers to remain within the speed limits and not to drink and drive.

“This is what we have been highlighting well before the festive season and people should take this seriously,” he said.

“We want the roads to be safe for all drivers as well as pedestrians,” he said.

SSP Waqa also said that there would be increased police patrols in the North to ensure the safety of the general public.
