The Fiji National Rugby League (FNRFL) says its main focus for 2019 will be how to develop a professional approach within the organisation.

FNRL chairman Peni Musunamasi says; “We badly need professionalism in everything we do because there will be a lot of training for club officials, including club managers, club coaches and strength and conditioning staff for clubs and zone officials,” Musunamasi said.

“We need the co-operation of all stakeholders, clubs, zones, primary and secondary schools, referees, FNRL staff and board members to be able to try and change the way we do things from grassroots to the national team.”

2018 recap

Musunamasi acknowledged major sponsor Vodafone for its support this year.

“We thank the good Lord for his provision for FNRL in 2018.  We managed to reach the third World Cup semifinal in a row, beating the Kiwis,” he said.

“We are thankful to Vodafone for bearing with us and giving us another opportunity in coming in again as our major sponsor until 2021.

“We have managed a lot through their support and sponsorship,” Musunamasi said.

“FNRL went through a lot of changes in 2018 where we amended our Articles and Memorandum of Association, financial calendar and we try and adapt to our major sponsor Vodafone new sponsorship agreement,” he added.

2019 plans

“We look forward having our Fiji Bati Head Coach based here in Fiji thanks to the Fiji National Sports Commission.

“We will also be tapping into the business arm of FNRL to assist our extra administration and development costs.”

2019 is going to be year of changes to FNRL as it works towards change for the sake of local players.
