The Fiji Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre has been activated and is now coordinating the search for a fiberglass boat.

The Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Centre (FMSRCC) and the Fiji Police Force has started their coordinating search for the missing people at sea since this morning.

The Director of FMSRCC Lieutenant Sairusi Colati said they were informed by Police Command Control Center (PCCC) this morning, regarding an overdue yellow fibre glass boat with seven passengers on board that left Levuka for Nawaikama village in Gau.

“The yellow fibre glass boat had left to Levuka around 9am on Wednesday morning but failed to reach its destination,” he said.

“The FMSRCC and FPF are working together to coordinate a search for the missing people at sea.”

Lieutenant Colati said maritime broadcast to mariners has been issued and aeronautical watch over the area has been conducted by aircrafts passing.

The Police and FMSRCC are pleading with mariners to provide further information and be on the lookout for any sightings of the missing boat.
