It was an opportune time for the extended Morrell family to get together as they joined hundreds of families at My Suva Picnic Park yesterday to enjoy the Boxing Day holiday.

While some family members operated the BBQ stands and brought Christmas Day leftover food for lunch the children were having a good time swimming and enjoying their break.

A senior member of the Morrell family said they had been planning for the Boxing Day celebration for weeks.

Altogether, 38 members of their family were present. They came from different parts of Fiji.

“We are happy to gather here as one big family to spend a good time and enjoy each other’s company. It is like the annual thing for us to enjoy family company during the holiday,” said members of the Morrell family.

Also, at the park Elina Mavida was decorating a small tent she had put up with her husband, Sakiasi Mavida for them and their five children to get some shade on the hot sunny day.

They were eagerly waiting for other family members, who were still at home preparing food for lunch and dinner and would join them later.

“We are here trying to make the place look nice and presentable for the rest of the day,” she said.

“It’s a lovely day we will be here till the time my family wants to stay even till nightfall.”

The Sotia family from Nasova Police compound were also at My Suva Picnic Park . They were planning for a BBQ lunch before they enjoyed the rest of the day swimming or simply enjoying the sunshine.

Karalaini Luvenitoga said she was having a enjoyable time with her family.

“Boxing Day is going very nice and the fine weather condition has made it better,” she said.

“Spending time with family is the best thing.”
