Magistrate Reminds Drivers Dangers Of Drink Driving

A Suva Magistrate yesterday reminded a special court sitting that drink driving is prohibited by law as it could lead to problems, even fatal.
Magistrate Waleen George sounded the reminder after presiding a traffic offence case at the Suva Magistrates Court.
Paula Dinauvoli was charged with driving a motor vehicle while there was present in his blood a concentration of alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit.
It was alleged that on December 25, at McGregor Road in Suva, Dinauvoli drove a motor vehicle while there was present in 100 millilitres of his blood a concentration of 171.6 milligrams of alcohol which was in excess of the prescribed limit.
Magistrate George remanded the accused in custody.
In another case, a Suva man was also remanded in custody for traffic-related offences.
Sosiceni Raqio is charged with one count each of driving a motor vehicle while there is present in the blood a concentration of alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit and driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence.
It is alleged that on December 25, 2018, in Lami, Raqio drove a motor vehicle along Fenton Street, Lami, while there was present in 100 millilitres of his blood a concentration of 156.2 milligrams of alcohol, which was in excess of the prescribed limit.
It is also alleged that on the same day, the accused did not produce a driver’s licence when asked. Both cases were adjourned to December 31 for mention.
