The discovery of a man’s body on Christmas Day has shocked the residents of Vesida Hart, Nasinu. The body was in a creek nearby.

One of the first people to have noticed the body was Tamari Cabeikanacea.

The 51-year-old was crossing the bridge to get some lemons for her daughter when she saw what appeared to be the outline of a man.

“Children were playing on the bridge and they were throwing stones in the creek so I stopped to watch what they were doing,” she said.

“As I was standing on the bridge, I looked across the creek and I thought I saw a person’s arms and backside.

“I was a little confused so I asked the children to go and check what was in the water.” By that time a crowd had gathered and one of them had contacted the Police.

Ms Cabeikanacea, who has been living in Vesida for the past four years, said it was the first time for her to come across something as unexpected as this.

“I was not scared of what I had witnessed, but I grieve for the family who has lost a loved one like this,” she said.

“While we all were celebrating Christmas, there is a family out there waiting for the return of this person.”

Police are requesting information to help identify the man.

They said the man has a tattoo of Bob Marley on his left shoulder, is of fair complex- ion and broad built.

A post mortem will be conducted to discover the cause of death.

Investigations continue.
