Akapusi Qera aims to play in his fourth Rugby World Cup in Japan next year,

The former Fiji Airways Flying Fijians skipper knows the task would be tough with the quality of loose-forwards in the country.

But the Lakeba, Lau native believes nothing is impossible as he aims to make the squad like he did in his first RWC in 2007.

Dropped by Fiji Airways Flying Fijians head coach John McKee for the November internationals in Europe, Qera is resurrecting his career by joining Hartpury Rugby Club in Gloucester, England.

“If you look around Europe, there are good Fijian loose-forwards playing at big clubs and I’m aware of that,”Qera told Gloucester Live.

“But I managed to push myself into the squad in 2007 and everything is possible. “That’s my goal but right now I’m not looking beyond that.”

Giving back to Fiji rugby

Qera aims to finish his Level Three coaching certificate while playing for Hartpury RC.

“Right now, I’m having discussions because I did my Level 2 (coaching) here so Level 3 is an option.

“That’s something I’m looking forward to, increasing my knowledge in rugby maybe one day I can help the Fiji team in whatever way. So that’s my goal and right now I’m looking forward to it. Coaching would be my long-term goal.”

Qera was one of the star players at the 2007RWC where the Ilivasi Tabua –coached side reached the Cup quarterfinals going down 20-37 to South Africa.

He also played at the 2011 and 2015 RWC where the Fijians won one game each against Namibia (49-25) and Uruguay (47-15) respectively.
