Police officers in Gau will soon be given a bigger and better boat to patrol Gau Island and to attend to cases on Nairai.

This was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, who visited Gau Island yesterday.

He accompanied a team to meet villagers from Nacavanadi to address the issue of chiefly title disputes regarding the Tui Wailevu title.

He said his visit was to enforce to the villagers that they needed to adhere to the law and to the decision of the Native Lands Commission, once made regarding the Tui Wailevu of Nacavanadi title.

Brigadier-General Qiliho, while there, visited his team manning the Gau Police Post which attends to complaints on Nairai as well.

“For me, I have to address both land and sea mobility assets to which is covered by the Gau Police Post. We have emough land mobility assets to push out and in the process of getting boats through current provisions. I will have to push out a bigger boat to service the Lomaiviti Group rather than the open punts they are currently using and hiring.”

The Officer-in-Charge of the Gau Police Post in Qarani is Woman Corporal Asenaca Qica, who leads a team of four constables.
