A couple from New-Zealand have started work on a resort in the hub of Labasa.

Owners, Sneh Lata Raj, 29 and her husband Micheal John-Day, 50, who bought the Korovatu beach area about a year ago, have started the ground works on the Korovatu Beach Resort.

Mrs Raj said the value of the investment is yet to be disclosed, however they are hoping for it to be as success in Labasa.

As a child Mrs Raj’s mother, Manjila Devi, 57, who resides in Tuatua, had the responsibility of looking after the picnic area.

Hence the reason Mrs Raj had always returned to Korovatu picnic area and why she chose the location to build the resort

Mrs Raj said that the investment would be a good opportunity for locals as it would create employment opportunities for them.

“We have always been visiting Fiji and finally decided to do something unique in Labasa,” said Mrs Raj.

She said that the beach flocked in with a lot of visitors especially during this festive season.

“Many people love coming to this place and I hope that the resort will attract more people locally and abroad,” she said.

“We are aiming at creating maximum employment for the locals.”

She also added that they would feature foreign concepts and designs into the construction of the resort.

“It will be an internationally welcoming resort where people can get access to a wide range of services,”Mrs Raj said.

She said that construction is expected to take around five to six years.

The resort will feature various amenties like swimming pools, restaurant, bar and functions rooms.

The couple will be visiting Fiji next year during February.
