This is a correction to an article published on Thursday, December, 27 titled “Club Brings cheers to Several Villages in Savusavu.”

The article was centred on the Slayers charity club distributing gifts and accessories to villages in Savusavu and made it appear that the project was planned and paid for by the Slayers.

Unfortunately, that was incorrect. In reality, the project was undertaken by the Savusavu Community Foundation (SCF).

SCF was initially formed in the early 2000s to provide improved healthcare, education, community support, and environmental and cultural preservation.

Since its inception, SCF has donated more than $50 million to the larger Savusavu community and throughout Fiji.

Ken Barasch, chairperson and founder of SCF said: “SCF is thankful to partner with Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, which provides boots on the ground for many of our projects, especially for our annual Christmas hamper programme, on which we typically spend more than $20,000 each year.”

After more than a month of planning, purchasing, and organising this year’s gifts and food, and spending a few days distributing them, on its Facebook page, Savusavu Community Foundation posted a proud summary of their annual gift giving.

“It’s been another extraordinary year for Savusavu Community Foundation!

“We’ve obtained more than $1 million in donated essential medicines for Fiji, built community halls and kindergartens, held many medical clinics, repaired more of the damage left from Cyclone Winston, and supported numerous education and environmental initiatives.

“This week SCF completed what is always one of the most fun and rewarding projects of every year – our 18th year distributing holiday food hampers and presents for hundreds of the neediest families on Vanua Levu in Fiji.

“Our elves at Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort spent more than a month planning, purchasing and packing up the hampers, and spent the last two days driving from early morning to late evening to deliver the gifts.

“Many thanks to Paul, Kaye, Kitty, Pio, Anna, Frank, Pete, Mika, Arthur, Osea, Maria, George, Semi, Patrina, Talei, and Sela and all of the good folks at JMC for their tireless efforts.

“And thank you to the Slayers from Mechanical Services Limited for their truck and van and strong helpers to load and unload the gifts.”
