Former national 7s rep Amenoni Nasilasila will be spending his New Year at home after the Sigatoka Magistrate Court granted bail yesterday.

Nasilasila, who was remanded in Police custody, appeared before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou charged with one count of rape.

Lawyer Una Baleilevuka represented Nasilasila and Inspector Mohammed Shameem represented the State.

Savou granted bail but on strict conditions.

Nasilasila was required to pay a bail bond of $1000 and present one surety.

National 7s team manager Jone Niurua acted as his surety.

He was not required to surrender his passport but a stop departure notice has been issued.

Defence counsel Baleilevuka told the court Nasilasila will be away from his home if he is in camp training with the national 7s team at St John’s Hostel in Des Voux Road, Suva.

Magistrate Savou told Niurua that Nasilasila will be under his assurance and to adhere to the strict bail conditions.

Inspector Shameem objected to the bail.

He told the court that the Nasilasila relatives have been in contact with the victim on many occasion.

Magistrate Savou told the State to make an application at the High Court in Lautoka.

The case has been transferred to the High Court in Lautoka for mention. He said the offence is an indictable one.

Nasilsila will appear at the Lautoka High Court on January 28.
