As we welcome 2019, the Nadi and Sigatoka Town Councils have shifted into precautionary mode as they brace for the cyclone predicted to threaten Fiji.

Sigatoka Town chief executive officer, Tulsi Ram, said his council members were preparing for the cyclone and were on standby if people needed assistance.

“The team is doing some cleaning up on drainage systems and trimming down of trees which may cause damage by the severe bad weather that has been forecasted,” he said.

“The Health Department teams are working together to ensure the preparation is in place for the safety of our town and the people of Sigatoka.

“We are on standby if people need assistance they can call us.”

Further up the highway at the Nadi Town Council office CEO Robin Ali said they were taking precautions to safeguard property and assets.

“We still have sunshine now in Nadi, but we are taking precautions seriously,” Mr Ali said.

“We have been notified to get ready for the cyclone by clearing some of our property that needs to be safeguarded.”

He advised members of public to be cautious of cyclone warning and take heed even if they had plans to celebrate the arrival of the new.
