Despite numerous advisories and warnings by authorities litter bugs have continued to dump rubbish along the Suva-Nausori corridor.

This was confirmed after the Fiji Sun conducted a check on rubbish spots in the area yesterday.

And this time authorities will come down hard on those who disregard litter laws.

Minister for Waterways and Environment, Dr Mahendra Reddy said littering in public places was illegal.

“We are urging members of the public to act responsibly and dispose of their rubbish in bins provided,” he said.

“People must also demonstrate civic pride because littering contributes several costs to society as well as the country. They must change their attitude. “

Mr Reddy said he had discussed this last week with Permanent Secretary of Waterways and Environment and Director Local Government.

“We plan to place bins at additional places and then start prosecuting people who continue to demonstrate irresponsible behaviour,” he said.
