Verekibau Denied Bail
A 25-year-old man of Lami facing a drug- related charge has been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates Court.
Josateki Verekibau appeared before Magistrate Deepika Prakash yesterday.
He is charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
It is alleged that on December 29, 2018, in Lami, without lawful authority, Verekibau had in his possession 1.1 grams of Indian hemp leaves botanically known as cannabis sativa, an illicit drug.
The accused had waived his right to counsel.
Police prosecutor Corporal Sanil Kumar had objected to bail on the grounds that the accused had pending cases before the court of similar offences.
He was remanded in custody and was ordered to make formal application for bail.
The matter was transferred to Court Five before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa and adjourned to January 10.
