A Fijian couple have put their faith in the current Government and the progress of the country by investing more than $1 million to build a resort in Ra.

Dua Dua Beach Resort, at Volivoli is the newest attraction in Ra and an addition to the growing number of tourist attractions in the area.

For Latchman and Savita Gounden, have come back home from Auckland in New Zealand to set up the resort, close to where Mrs Gounden grew up.

The couple also run Quality Rental Cars in New Zealand.

Mrs Gounden said the time had come for all former residents to come back and invest in Fiji.

“We were happy to come and set up this business and we are getting good feedback on our venture,” she said.

The resort presently has five villas which are equipped with all amenities except for cooking.

“We started building the villas last year and we opened for guests in November and there is a lot of interest.

“The resort also has its own swimming pool, restaurant, private beach and a marina.”

The couple have a catamaran that can carry 55 passengers and is used for sunset cruises.

Their other smaller boats are available for game fishing.

About the resort

The resort is built on 10 acres of land beside the sea and currently employs 30 people from the area.

Close to 20 more are employed at a sheep farm which the couple own.

“We felt it was now the time to invest in Fiji as there is an elected Government in place.”

Mr Gounden, who is from Labasa moved to New Zealand before he married Mrs Gounden here in Rakiraki.

“There is no limitations to what we will do as far as expansion goes as there is a lot that could be done.

“For those who want to relax, do some fishing or just find a nice quiet space, Dua Dua Beach Resort is the place for you.”
