The planned water shutdown at the Waila Water Treatment Plant by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has been postponed to next weekend due to unfavourable weather conditions.

WAF General Manager Customer Services and Acting General Manager Operations, Mr Sekove   Uluinayau said that it was imperative for the Authority to postpone the commissioning works.

“We  had  to  reschedule  the  works  because  of  the  weather  reports  on  Tropical Cyclone Mona. We do not want to take the risk of going ahead with the works as there are a lot of risks involved, which includes the safety of our crew members. We also do not want to shutdown  water  supply  to  these  areas  during  a  cyclone  as  this  would  cause  more inconvenience,” said Mr Uluinayau.

“Therefore, the new dates for the Waila Water Shutdown is from 6AM Sunday morning (13/01) to 6AM Monday morning (14/01), weather permitting. Members of the public will now have more time to store sufficient amounts of water for their needs,” he said.

Meanwhile, as Tropical Cyclone Mona approaches Mr Uluinayau said that members of the public living in flood prone areas are to boil all drinking water.

“Please boil your drinking water as flood waters may enter the water systems and please take heed of warnings and alerts by the Authority,” said Mr Uluinayau.

Members of the public are also requested to store sufficient amounts of water for back-up supply as water supply may be interrupted during the cyclone.
