The Ministry of Industry, Trade, Tourism, Local Government, Housing and Community Development aims to bring about reforms to improve doing business in Fiji.

In highlighting this Minister Premila Kumar said the reforms would help make it easier to unlock the wealth of talents that we have.

“We are also in the process of approving the Investment Policy Statement and undertaking consultations on the new legal framework for investments,” she said.

“We will review the competition legal framework and develop a Competition Policy.

“The ministry will also redesign the building permits process, to deliver a simpler, harmonised application process and make it a ‘one stop shop’ for the approval process.”

She also highlighted that it was important for them to take the opportunity at the beginning of her ministerial leadership to assess their performance.

“Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism (MITT) will be taking this initial period to monitor and evaluate our programmes so that we can refine our service delivery to all Fijians,” Ms Kumar said.

“We will continue with our National Export Strategy, Young Entrepreneurship Scheme, Fijian Made-Buy Fijian Campaign, to name a few to make these flagship programmes even more effective.”

She also wants her ministries to focus on raising awareness of the work undertaken and for them to increase community engagement efforts.

“MITT will do this through the Department of Co-operative Businesses and Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, Tourism Unit and the Department of National Trade Measurement and Standards.”

In doing so, Ms Kumar said they could further strengthen Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) participation in the Fijian economy and ensure Fijians were aware of policy developments and the developments in the marketplace.
