The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources plans to put an end to the illegal dealing of State Land.

Minister Ashneel Sudhakar said this would be a priority for 2019.

Mr Sudhakar has identified key areas for his ministry where improvements are due.

He said an area of concern for him was the issuance of licences for gravel and other mineral resources and he aims to bring a greater sense of transparency to this process.

“The ministry will ensure the best use of State Land to maximise investment, industry and agriculture,” he said.

“We also intend to maximise returns on royalties for landowners and the State.

“We need to ensure landowners are paid their royalties in time and in the right amounts.”

An improved complaints system and database to allow people to lodge their complaints easily and for the Lands Department to handle it efficiently is another priority area identified by Minister Sudhakar.

“The ministry will also be working to quicken the processing time for renewal of leases and ensure that lease conditions and other legal requirements on leases are properly followed,” he added.
