Krishika Narayan the chief executive officer of South Pacific Stock Exchange and SPSE chairperson Nur Bano Ali have been working behind the scenes to ensure that Stock Exchange is up to par with international standards.

The two ladies were invited by the NZ Stock Exchange board, late last year, to discuss potential collaboration areas which could in turn foster the growth of both exchanges.

Topics discussed included attachments of staff; introduction of new products and markets such as crowdfunding platform, exchange traded funds and alternative investment market; and technological advancement to enhance efficiencies in trading and settlement processes.

There is a lot that Fiji can learn from NZ Stock Exchange given that their market is more developed but particularly the two exchanges can work together in terms of information sharing, potential of dual listings and enhancing regulatory frameworks.

Ms Narayan and Ms Ali are currently in discussion with NZX to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding between the two Exchanges to have a more meaningful engagement.

SPSE as the host for the 15th Annual World Exchange Congress to be held in Fiji in May 2020 entered into a formal agreement with Terrapinn Holdings Limited (the organising company of the Congress).

The World Exchange Congress 2020 is anticipated to bring together 450 attendees representing the entire Exchange ecosystem – from stock, commodity and energy exchanges to clearing and settlement venues, regulators, capital market authorities and technology solution providers.

This year, Ms Narayan said SPSE would be vigorously pursuing its investor awareness activities. Additionally, more work will be put in to increase the number of companies listed on SPSE as well the range of products listed.

Kudos ladies.
