Ships will resume picking up students on holiday in the maritime islands in the next few days before the official start of the new school year next week.

This is after Maritime and Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) acting CEO Philip Hill briefed Government officials and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at Nasilivata House in Suva yesterday.

Mr Bainimarama advised authorities to look at the ships heading to the outer islands.

“Liaise with the captains of the ships, if they are ready and the weather is good then go ahead and get the kids from the outer islands,” he said.

Captain Hill says ships are resuming trips to transport the students back before the school year begins.

“The ships left for Vanuabalavu yesterday afternoon, upon its return from the island it will resume trips to Kadavu especially for students who went to the islands during the festive season,” he said.

With Tropical Cyclone Mona slowly moving away from the Fiji Group people from the outer islands can expect frequent visits from Government officials and help from the authorities.

Captain Hill has reassured people living in the outer islands that help is coming soon with the Government ships that will be deployed to various islands.

“Government shipping will resume operations today,” he said.

“There is a voyage planned for Kabara and other outer islands.”

Meanwhile the franchise ships will resume operations soon.
