Police have renewed a warning to members of the public to stop assaulting its officers because it is a serious crime.

The warning has come after two suspects were arrested in Tailevu yesterday for allegedly assaulting a Police officer from Korovou Police Station.

The suspects allegedly tore the Police officer’s uniform and reflector vest while he was trying to wake up a man lying in the middle of the road.

In another incident, a police officer from Vunidawa Police Station was injured while attending to a report of causing disturbance on December 30, 2018.

The officer was pelted with stones and suffered injuries on his leg and was later treated at Vunidawa Hospital.

Officers from Vunidawa arrested three suspects, who later were charged and are expected to be produced in the Nausori Magistrates Court.

“Don’t underestimate your Police officers, if you commit such crimes then we will hunt you down and bring you to justice, said ACP Toduadua.

DRUGS ARREST

The Police Eastern Division drugs team arrested a 43-year-old man of Visama, Nausori, yesterday for being in possession of four sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The dried leaves seized have yet to be analysed.

Meanwhile, officers from the Police Special Response Unit stopped and searched a vehicle at Namaka Police Station compound yesterday.

They found dried leaves believed to be marijuana with a plastic containing a white substance suspected to be hard drugs.

The suspect is a 28-year-old man of Wailoaloa, Nadi. He is in Police custody while the dried leaves and white substance have yet to be analysed.
