The memorial service for former director of the then Fiji Institute of Technology now Fiji National University, Kolinio Rainima Meo, will be held at 9am today at the Samabula East Methodist Church.

He passed away on Monday after a short illness.

Mr Meo attended the then Sese District School now Volivoli Primary School. He attended Lelean Memorial School before he joined Nasinu Teachers College and graduated in 1967 as a primary school teacher.

After teaching at Lelean Memorial School in 1968 he took up a one year conversion course at NTC to teach industrial arts at the junior secondary level. He then served for 2 years at Niusawa Methodist Secondary School. In 1972 he enrolled at the USP and graduated with a Diploma in Education in 1973. Mr Meo then taught at DAV College, Ba and at Nilsen High School in 1974 and 1975. He resumed further studies at the USP in 1976 and graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 1977.

He became a Senior Education Officer in 1978 and Principal Education Officer in 1987.

In 1995, he was appointed as the Deputy Secretary for Education and in 1999 he was the Deputy Secretary for Fijian Affairs.

From mid 1999 to 2000 he was the Permanent Secretary for Tourism & Transport.

He was a member of many national councils and boards between 1987 to 2008.

He was awarded the Top 100 Educators in 2006 by the International Biographical Association (IBA) of Cambridge, England.

Mr Meo was 72 years old when he passed away. He is survived by his wife and six children.

The late Mr Meo will be laid to rest at the old Suva Cemetery
