When Sanil Sami used to sing in the back-up choir in his church, he knew then that he had a greater calling than just singing in the background.

He was just 10 years old.

22 years later, he’s had two albums released in partnership with local music producers and is working on his third.

The man from Vunika, Labasa, said that singing praises to God is something that continues to inspire him every day.

“Through every song, I glorify God and what He has done for us,” he said.

“My heart does not belong to me but to my God whose name I keep glorifying,” he said.

Mr Sami released his first album in 2017 titled Mashi Gheet.

“This was released by Procerra Music Fiji and I’m really glad that they assisted me reach closer to my dreams,” he said.

He released his second album last year titled Bolo Bolo Jai in partnership with Exotic Fiji Limited.

“I have been working on my next album and I am planning to release it soon,” he said.

“It’s an inner calling in life to devote oneself to God and to follow his path each day,” he said when asked what makes him sing.

For him, the first time he put his hands on a guitar was at 10 years old while in the church choir group.

“That is when I started developing my interests,” he said.

As time passed, he got more exposure and soon realised his own talent in singing.

“People in Labasa are also responding positively to my album,” he said.

His philosophy in life is that God has provided us with everything, and it’s up to us to explore those talents and gifts.

“Nothing would be possible without Him,” he said.

Mr Sami is married with two kids. He said his three-year-old son’s interest has grown through his music.

“He knows the lyrics to my songs and I’m really happy about that,” he said.
