They are grateful to the Lautoka Farmers Carnival Committee for its help

A father of eight counted his blessings yesterday after receiving free exercise books and stationery from the Lautoka Farmers Carnival committee.

Peceli Suasua, who came to the venue in crutches, was among the about 400 people who turned up to the arcade along Vitogo Parade in Lautoka.

Mr Suasua said it was a burden that was lifted off his shoulders.

“It is a blessing for me and my family,” he said.

“I have eight children. Two of them are in St Thomas High School, one is in Natabua High School, three in Lovu Sangam School and two are at home.”

Another parent, Arishma, 28, came from Raviravi, Ba, to receive the items.

“I am really grateful and thankful to the Farmers Carnival committee for providing for us, the needy ones, who actually need this,” she said.

“This will make my two children happy and ensure that they go to school.”

Lautoka Farmers Carnival president, Vyas Deo Sharma said: “This is our annual event we have been distributing books to the disadvantaged students in the Lautoka district and as usual we are doing the same thing this year.

“We want to ensure that we distribute the stationery to as many students as possible.”
