Top Golfers All Set For North Open
Four national reps will be among the 40 golfers playing in the A. Hussein Hardware sponsored Vanua Levu Golf Open tournament in Labasa tomorrow.
Labasa Golf Club captain Vinod Chand told SUNsports yesterday the national reps are Abid Hussein, Afiz Chand, Nigel Goundan and Rohit Chandra.
“Hussein is originally from Labasa and has been the defending champion of this tournament,” Chand said.
“He has won the tournament five years in a row.
The two-day tournament will be opened on Saturday at 9am by the Assistant Minister for Sugar George Vegnathan.
“The winners will be given prizes by the sponsor,” Chand said.
Chand said they’re grateful to A. Hussein Hardware for their continuous support for the past five years.
“The tournament will be played in the individual category and not in grades,” he said.
“We’re planning to have more tournaments this year like always.”
Chand said registration of golfers wanting to play is still open.
“The club has done lot of work in trying to develop golf in Labasa,” he added.
