Government’s free education initiative has eased the burden on parents who struggle to put their children through school.

One such parent is Sharmila Devi of Korovuto, Nadi, who says it’s not easy looking after her four children, especially after her bed-ridden husband died.

She said the Government-initiated free education initiative eased some of her burdens and was a great help to her family.

“It was not easy to look after four kids and a sickly bedridden husband,” Ms Devi said.

“Life was very hard for us because we have less wages and we can’t afford to buy all our children’s need.

“My husband died a few years back and I decided to remarry in order to share my load.

“I was fortunate that my second husband took care of my children. Today he gave me some money to buy some school stationery.

“I am more thankful to the Government because it is providing most of the things that we as parents have to spend our money on, such as bus fares, school textbooks and school fees,” she said.
