The growth of Fiji’s art scene has prompted a call for local artists to get together to give their creativity and artwork new exposure.

The call has come from artist and published writer Peter Sipeli, who says such a move would be good for the art industry.

“There are so many aspiring writers in Fiji and I’m of the view that getting everyone together will really be constructive for people,” he said.

“The arts sector in Fiji was growing rapidly. We have more young talents coming out with their work, which is truly fascinating.”

Mr Sipeli said having a get together of new and budding artists would in turn be a stepping stone for the sector.

“This way, we can have an open communication with everyone and also share ideas in the world of art and literature,” he said.

However, looking for sponsorship for the event seems to be at the forefront of Mr Sipeli’s attention.

“We would really appreciate it if there are sponsors willing to assist us with this because artists from all throughout Fiji would be getting together,” he said.

“I’m a believer that poetry and creativity exist in everyone, and in the Fijian culture and our way of living.”

Mr Sipeli is manager of Art Talk, a magazine in Fiji focused on art and history.
