The Yasawa Islands are renowned for producing top rugby players. Players like Kaiava Salusalu, Sevens Rugby World Cup winner Jone Daunivucu, former All Blacks centre Seta Tamanivalu, burly ex- Wallabies winger Taqele Naiyaravoro, powerhouse winger Eroni Sau, Fiji Airways Fijian Drua captain Mosese Voka, Fijian 7s captain Kalione Nasoko and latest sensation Aminiasi Tuimaba.

The future looks bright after the Newborn Yasawa side took out the Silverwaters Tabadamu 7s Under-20 title after they beat Sukulan Brothers 12-7 in the final at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Newborn Yasawa U20 manager Manasa Takala told SUNsports the reason behind their participation was to expose the abundance of talents they have.

“We selected players based on their potential and merit,” he said.

Talented players like Peni Soro, Maikeli Rokodinono and Serupepeli Bainivatu stood out.

Takala pointed out that they are now going to compete in the open grade of the upcoming Vanuaso 7s tournament.

“Also, we are going to play in the Radradra 7s tournament in Taveuni where there is an under-20 competition as well,” he added.

The team on social media expressed their appreciation to Tuimaba for visiting them.
