Apart from mentally preparing herself for the daily challenges single parent, Matelita Cirimaitoga finds solace in daily prayer sessions.

“It’s an everyday struggle but I just psyche myself knowing that these sacrifices will benefit my two boys,” said the Lovu HART Home resident.

When the Fiji Sun caught up with her, she was preparing school items for her two sons who will be among thousands of students throughout Fiji, beginning the 2019 academic year today.

Ms Cirimaitoga said it was only through prayer and sacrifice that she was able to overcome the many challenges to put her children in school.

“I always pray for divine intervention, we have our evening devotion and I do believe in that because sometimes we have donations and I am grateful for that,” she said.

“I’ve bought some of my sons’ school items, the only things left are their new uniforms and school sandals.

“As a single parent it is sometimes hard for me to make ends meet but I just forge ahead in faith.”

The handicraft vendor said the funds collected from selling her stock at the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Denarau Island in Nadi, was used on her children’s needs.

“I leave home at 8am at least four days a week, making my way to the Sheraton,” she said.

“I have to find my own way in the morning and money earned from selling handicraft is to sustain our needs at home.

“Every time I persevere to support my kids I simply always tell myself that I can do it.”

Ms Cirimaitoga is hopeful to see her kids become successful one day.
