Fiji Beach Volleyball has announced the men and women’s extended training squads for the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, FBV director Josese Tulele said preparations are on track.

“We’ll be having our first fitness screening on Saturday before we march into camp next week,” he said.

“We’ll have a series of training sessions, fitness test, and regular competitions. We’ll have a 12-week league and we’ll do the cut off during the Easter Games.”

“Three overseas-based Fiji reps Inia Korowale, Sakiusa Naivana, and Mitieli Naborisi have made the cut and will join the squad in April.

“We will be selecting the final team after the Fiji Games in April.”

Tulele said the aim is to win the gold medal in the men and women’s category respectively and they are confident of achieving that.

“Previously, in the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu, we settled for bronze in both the categories so hopefully this time around we will lift our performance.

“There has been a good turnout by the players so far and we’re looking forward to great preparations ahead of the remaining few months.

“However, the players selected for the Games in Samoa will also compete in phase one of the 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers which will be held a week before the Pacific Games.”
