Fijian-born Nathan Hughes will join Bristol Bears ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 27-year-old number eight, who has won 18 caps for England, has agreed to a three-year contract at Ashton Gate.

“He’s a player who brings physicality, power and brute strength to our game,” said head coach Pat Lam.

“It’s tremendous to secure Nathan’s signing and to see how excited he is about coming to Bristol and helping us realise our vision,”

“He’s a quality rugby player who brings physicality, power and brute strength to our game.”

Lam said the Bears are striving to be a Champions Cup team and a player of Nathan’s quality can help in the journey, on and off the field.

Hughes is a product of the Auckland academy.

Daily Mail reported that he is likely to earn over a $1 million a year as part of a three-year deal.

He was in Fiji late last month to farewell his grandfather, David Joseph William.

The loose-forward is a former St Thomas High School student.
