The Paul John coached- Hong Kong men’s rugby 7s team are using the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens to help their preparation for the qualifying playoffs of the HSBC World Sevens Series and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

“We’re looking forward since it is a tough competition.” John who coached Wales to win the Rugby World Cup Sevens in 2009 said.

“There are many good teams, the Fijian village teams, Australian Development and the American Eagles.

“It’s a tough competition for us and we know that and we hope to perform better than last year.”

He said they have about five or six players who are making their debut as they hope to get the best from the Fijian players.

“Some key players are missing especially those who were part of the Hong Kong XVs side that played in the re-pecharge competition,” he added.

“The team is working around the clock to cement a side in the World Rugby Sevens Series. It is getting tougher and that is our aim for the longer term so we need to get consistent,” he said.

The side are in Pool B alongside Tabadamu, Sigatoka River Safari Senibua and Lokalevu (Ratu Filise development)
