Habana: Anyone Can Win 7s Series

Rivalry between the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team and South Africa during the World Sevens Series for the past years have resulted in the emergence of new teams, says former Springbok Bryan Habana.
The legendary winger said these new teams are now adding the spice to sevens circuit.
Habana was speaking after he was inducted to the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens Walk of Fame in Sigatoka yesterday.
He has joined the likes David Campese, the late Jonah Lomu, George Gregan and Fiji’s own Waisale Serevi (Snr).
“It is always a sad day to hang your boots but to be recognised with an opportunity like this is so heartening,” he said.
Turning his attention to 7s rugby, Habana says with New Zealand making a comeback, the other team who are making their mark are USA.
“Now it’s anybody’s game,” he said.
Habana said the challenges are coming from USA, New Zealand, England and Spain who reached the Cup quarterfinals of the Cape Town 7s tournament.
“Teams like USA ended 2018 on the high note and are on the number one spot of the series. Then New Zealand winning both the men and women’s Rugby World Cup Sevens and the gold medals at the Commonwealth Games last year,” he added.
“Now it’s among four teams and you don’t have any easy team. I think it is an exciting format.
“For so many people sevens is a beautiful game to watch and experience beside the party atmosphere in the crowd. The skills on show on the field are from all teams and not only the top sides,” he added.
