The Labasa Women’s football team held their Appreciation Day event on Tuesday where they reflected on their 2018 performance and also set their plans for 2019.

Labasa Women’s coach Roneel Ram said that last year was filled with many challenges however the team still managed to come out runners-up in the Champion versus Champion (CvC).

“We’re really thankful to the girls for their hard work and dedication throughout the year,” he said.

Ram said the other victories last year included winning the Under-18, U16 tournaments and the Senior Women’s Northern League.

He said their major rival was the Ba Women’s football side however, they are determined to do well this year.

“We’ll be training hard, and have set our goals on winning the major tournaments this year.

“Our training sessions will now be centered on ways in which we can overcome the opponent’s tactics and game plan in a short span of time and device our own strategies to score goals.”

Ram said they are also gearing up for the Vodafone Women’s Inter-District Championship that will be on January 25-27.

He said by appreciating the players’ efforts and presenting them with certificates would in-turn boost their morale.

“We also thank Naqai Taxis for assisting us with this event,” he said.
